Wine Tasting a La Surrey!

I recently hosted a wine tasting in Surrey for some lovely ladies. It was fabulous.

I have to say I was extremely nervous.

In my opinion when doing these tastings, it is important to offer the right balance of information, tasting time, vs letting your clients have a jolly good chat!  Every group is different and getting the tone and balance right is not always easy.

But I nailed it! I was immensely proud of myself and as I pulled everything together and started to share some information and go through things I relaxed.  I realised that I am good at this. And I really love doing it.

Remember when I started this journey (and I am still at the early stage) I started doing YouTube videos to make wine more approachable to people and because I hate being on camera, so I wanted to do something that challenged my fears.  From YouTube, the blog and wine tastings emerged.

So, about the tasting!

The ladies were treated to:

  • A caprese salad paired with Whispering Angel 2020 Rosé (flavours more enhanced, slightly sweeter)

  • Garlic Prawns with extra virgin olive oil paired with The Ned Pinnacle Sauvignon Blanc 2020 (flavours were juicier and smoother)

  • Tiramisu paired with Argüeso 1822 Fino Sherry (flavours were smooth, less acidity, silky soft on the palate).

It was a huge success. All wines paired well.

I had two wonderful highlights of the evening. The first is when Nikki (who does not like prawns much, only prawn cocktail) LOVED the prawn dish I made.  Nikki did not love the Sauvignon Blanc prior to the pairing but once she combined the prawns and wine was a changed woman.

The other is the sherry.  Everyone in the UK has memories of sherry!  Siobhan was like this reminds me of my gran.  Milena said this reminded her of the homemade beer her father makes in Poland……. we are all very keen to try her dad’s wine!

Overall, apart from Milena, the sherry was not an immediate love affair but again once paired with the tiramisu the flavours changed and it became a hugely respected digestif.

I want to say a huge thank you to Milena, Nikki, Deanna, Siobhan, and Gemma.  You ladies rock!  It was such a treat to host a wine tasting event for you.

See you soon.
